Blue Forum & Fair Postponed Due to Concerns Over Coronavirus

Event Was To Take Place on Sunday, March 15

MIAMI FL: The Miami-Dade Democratic Party has indefinitely postponed the planned Blue Forum & Fair over concerns about the spread of coronavirus in large groups. The Blue Forum & Fair was scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 15 at the Firefighters Memorial Building, in Doral, Florida, and had been expected to draw hundreds of Democrats from across Miami-Dade County.

“New cases are being reported every day in Florida,” stated Steve Simeonidis, chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. “It is very likely that the reported cases are a severe undercount, and so out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to postpone the Blue Forum & Fair.”

The Party will be refunding ticket-buyers by the end of the week.

With only 2 presidential candidates with a fighting chance to win the nomination, and still close to 1500 delegates needed to win the nomination, Florida’s 219 pledged delegates will play a significant role. Miami-Dade County has over 600,000 Democrats. Their turnout will be critical in deciding both the Democratic nominee, and the eventual winner of Florida’s 29 Electoral College votes in November. Fair attendees will have opportunities to learn how they can support their candidate in the final days, and participate in a preference poll that will be published at the end of the day.

Hey Miami: Early voting for the 2020 Presidential Primary has begun

Early voting for the Presidential Preference Primary in Miami-Dade County started on Monday, March 2. You can vote early at any early voting location in Miami-Dade County. Are you Election Ready? You can see a full list of early voting locations below. Here are the dates and times:

  • Monday, March 2 - Friday, March 6 (7 am to 3 pm)
  • Saturday, March 7 - Sunday, March 8 (8 am to 4 pm)
  • Monday, March 9 - Friday, March 13 (11 am to 7 pm)
  • Saturday, March 14 - Sunday, March 15 (8 am to 4 pm)

Or you can wait to weigh in on the Democratic Party's nominee for president on Tuesday, March 17.

Because Florida is a closed primary state, only registered Democrats will be able to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary. If you're registered with any party other than the Florida Democratic Party or as a no party affiliated (NPA) voter, the deadline has passed to change your party affiliation, but you may want to update to participate in local primaries in August.

If you want to receive a Vote-By-Mail ballot for the Presidential Preference Primary, make sure to request one here by March 7.

If you're already registered to vote as a Democrat, then you're all set—but don't stop there!

Because Vote-By-Mail ballots were printed some time ago, they include the names of some candidates who are no longer running for president. As of March 2, 2020, the following candidates are still in the race for president:

  • Joe Biden
  • Michael Bloomberg
  • Tulsi Gabbard
  • Bernie Sanders
  • Elizabeth Warren

And of course, two days before the Florida primary election, on Sunday, March 15, 2020, the Miami-Dade Democratic Party will be holding our Blue Forum and Fair. There will be booths for meet and greets with Democratic candidates and organizations that share our values; as well as food and a cash bar. Later in the day, there will be a Mayoral Forum featuring several Democratic candidates for county mayor.

We will be seeing many more presidential candidates in Florida at this time, so stay tuned for details about special guests at this convention.
