The executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship is blatantly unconstitutional

On January 20, 2025, just hours into his new Administration, President Trump signed an Executive Order attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of parents without lawful status or on non-immigrant visas—an action that directly contradicts the plain text of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to all individuals born on U.S. soil, with only one exception: children of foreign diplomats with diplomatic immunity.

Remembering Jimmy Carter: Yet another Democrat who helped Cubans escape

originally seen in Miami Herald

Former President James Earl Carter Jr., the 39th president of the United States, has passed away. His victory in the 1976 elections brought the Democratic Party to power, though he lost in a landslide to Republican Ronald Reagan in 1980.

According to his critics, Jimmy Carter was a humanitarian president and a weak leader. He faced enormous challenges that were nearly impossible to resolve through humanitarian policies: the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iran hostage crisis, the 1979 energy crisis and the recession that began in 1980, among others.

In April 1980, during the final months of his presidency, Carter faced another challenge: dictator Fidel Castro's manipulations.

Carter was forced to accept a human wave of 125,000 Cubans, many of whom were rescued by boat by their relatives during the six-month Mariel to Key West maritime boatlift - and thousands of others who were released from Cuban prisons by Castro and also placed on those vessels headed for South Florida.

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party Elects New Leadership

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party is proud to announce the election of Laura Kelley as its new Chair. Kelley brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the role.

As Chair, Kelley will focus on year-round engagement, grassroots organizing, and voter registration. Kelley’s election marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. “We need to get back to the basics of organizing at the precinct level, registering voters, and listening to what voters are telling us,” said Kelley. “We also need to be ready to fight the incompetence, cruelty, and corruption of another Donald Trump term in the White House.”
