2026 Miami-Dade Democratic Voter Guide

Democrats will have some major choices, with early voting starting on Monday, August 3, 2026. This guide highlights the key federal, state, county, and school board races in the August 18, 2026 election for Miami-Dade Democratic voters. As additional information becomes available, we'll continue updating. We have linked Democratic candidate names to their websites where available.

Miami-Dade Election Recommendations

Before diving into the primaries, we want to highlight some key local races where we have an opportunity to either elect a Democrat or ensure that a Democrat advances to the next round of elections in November.

These elections are open to all voters in the respective districts.

Miami-Dade County Commission 2026 elections

District 2 - Marlene Bastien (D) is running for re-election against Ernst Jean Louis and Miguel 'Skip' Quintero

District 5 - Rob Piper (D) is running against Vicky Lopez and Joe Sanchez

District 8 - Danielle Cohen Higgins (D) is running for re-election against John Edward DuBois and Martha 'Vega' Hero

Miami-Dade School Board 2026 elections

District 1 - Seven Democrats are vying to represent District 1 in the Miami-Dade school board. We invite you to learn more about them. The top two will advance to a runoff in November. 

District 8 - Sam Joseph (D) is running against Monica Colucci.

Sam's name is not on the ballot, so please be sure to write-in his name if you live in District 8

Florida Congressional Primaries 2026

We have some competitive primary races for Congress, where you get to choose who you want to run in November.

These elections are only available for registered Democrats. The deadline to update your party affiliation to participate in the primary is Monday, July 20. UPDATE YOUR PARTY AFFILIATION HERE ->

U.S. Senator from Florida - Ashley B. Moody was appointed by DeSantis to replace Marco Rubio. There will be a special election in November. Democrats have a choice…

Congressional District 24 is a wide open race following the announcement from Frederica Wilson that she is retiring.

Congressional District 25 has been redrawn to represent Floridians along the coast from Miami Beach up to North Miami, North Miami Beach, and Aventura (and then all the way up to Boca Raton). There are two Democrats running in the primary.

Congressional District 27 is currently represented by Maria Elvira Salazar. The two Democrats looking to unseat her are:

Florida State Government - Democratic Primaries

At the state level, there are various choices we can make. All Florida Democrats will be able to vote in the following primary elections

We will finally see the end of Ron DeSantis as Governor as he is term-limited. Republicans have some candidates in their primary that are not much better. We have wonderful options for our candidate to run in November.

The below elections are district specific, so please be sure to look up your district to see which elections are relevant to you. You can check your sample ballot to find out

State Senate District 34 has been served by Shevin Jones. He is stepping down to run for Congress. The district runs from Miami Gardens down to NE 36th St. and over to Miami Beach. The following candidates are running 

State House District 106 is currently represented by Republican Fabian Basabe. Two Democrats are looking to challenge him in November. The district stretches from Miami Beach to Aventura.

State House District 108 has been represented by Dotie Joseph (D), who is term-limited for this election. 

State House District 109 was represented by Ashley Gantt, until she announced she would run for State Senate.

State House District 113 has been without representation and we have two Democrat candidates vying for your vote.
