Senate Bill 1822 goes to Senate Community Affairs Committee this Monday, March 31 at 4:00 pm. The bill would prevent cities and counties from imposing restrictions or bans on plastic bags, foam containers, and similar items, taking away local control.

On January 20, 2025, just hours into his new Administration, President Trump signed an Executive Order attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of parents without lawful status or on non-immigrant visas—an action that directly contradicts the plain text of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to all individuals born on U.S. soil, with only one exception: children of foreign diplomats with diplomatic immunity.

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party is proud to announce the election of Laura Kelley as its new Chair. Kelley brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the role. 

As Chair, Kelley will focus on year-round engagement, grassroots organizing, and voter registration. Kelley’s election marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. “We need to get back to the basics of organizing at the precinct level, registering voters, and listening to what voters are telling us,” said Kelley. “We also need to be ready to fight the incompetence, cruelty, and corruption of another Donald Trump term in the White House.”

On Saturday, December 14th, 2024 the Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee will elect a new Chair to serve for the next four years to lead the Miami-Dade Democratic Party.

The Chair serves as the chief executive and presiding officer of the Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee, with the authority to make decisions between meetings, provided they align with established laws and policies. Responsibilities include appointing and removing key roles such as Parliamentarian, General Counsel, and committee members. The Chair manages staff hiring within budgetary limits, oversees financial records, and prepares an annual budget for approval. Additionally, the Chair ensures transparency in financial dealings, regulates expenditures, and enforces conflict-of-interest disclosures for contractors.
