Hear directly from Democrats Rob Piper (District 5), Marleine Bastien (District 2), and Danielle Cohen Higgins (District 8), and please remind your friends in these districts to cast their ballot. Early voting begins Monday, August 3rd.
District 5: Rob Piper
Rob Piper brings a record of genuine public service to this race, including 23 years in the Marine Corps with three combat tours, followed by years of civic and legislative work here in Miami-Dade. He is running on real accountability: monthly town halls, a public budget tool, and a task force to push back on special interest influence at County Hall.
He also has a serious plan to bring down housing costs, including a public bank to finance affordable housing and stronger protections against displacement. His opponents carry records voters should weigh carefully, from state legislation that stripped local communities of zoning control to a stadium financing deal that has cost Miami-Dade taxpayers billions.
District 2: Marleine Bastien
Marleine Bastien has spent her first term delivering for District 2 on housing and infrastructure. As Chair of the Housing Committee, she has pushed for development that starts at 40% AMI so working families are not priced out. She has also championed "missing middle" housing for residents who earn too much for traditional assistance but still cannot afford market rate.
She has directed historic investment into long neglected infrastructure, including clean water, sewer connections, and safer roads, in communities that had been overlooked for decades. Her four decades running the Family Action Network Movement before taking office gave her a firsthand understanding of how policy affects working families.
District 8: Danielle Cohen Higgins
Danielle Cohen Higgins has built a record of steady, substantive leadership in District 8. As Chair of the Airport Committee and Vice Chair of Appropriations, she has been a serious voice on the county budget and infrastructure.
She has sponsored or co-sponsored hundreds of measures, including a long planned bridge connecting two South Miami-Dade municipalities and tougher penalties for animal cruelty. She remains focused on the issues that define quality of life in South Dade: easing traffic, connecting the area to the rail corridor, and confronting sea level rise and water quality.
