Florida Democrats Announce Support of Kamala Harris for President

Today, over 200 leaders of the Florida Democratic Party announced their support of Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

“It’s time for Democrats to unite in support of Vice President Kamala Harris,” said Miami-Dade Democratic Party Chair Shevrin Jones. “Here’s my message to Florida Democrats and Democrats across the country: It is the Republicans’ dream to sit back and watch us fight each other and create chaos, but we don’t have to show them chaos. We can in turn show them unity and strength. Don’t get it twisted: the Republicans are scared because they know what we have known all the while — and that is that Kamala Harris can win and she will win.”

Following yesterday’s announcement that President Biden would not be seeking reelection, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell, Florida Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book, and 236 of Florida’s Democratic National Convention Delegates — including all of Florida’s elected congressional Democrats and Democratic National Committee members — are backing Vice President Harris’s bid to replace President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket.

“Florida Democrats are fired up and ready to elect Kamala Harris this November,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “As Vice President, she’s been on the frontlines of the fight for the soul of our nation, and I know that she’s ready to continue the work she started with President Biden four years ago. I’m proud to give her my full endorsement for President of the United States, and look forward to electing her this November.”

“I’m extremely proud to enthusiastically put my support behind Vice President Kamala Harris — easily the most accomplished and qualified candidate in either party,” said Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “Vice President Harris governed with the most experienced president in American history, and co-authored one of the most prolific lists of historic legislation that America has ever seen. Most importantly, Vice President Harris is the best positioned candidate to beat Donald Trump. She is the ultimate contrast to a lawless and toxic Trump, and represents the next generation of Democratic leaders who can directly confront Trump’s fitness for office.”

“I want to express my unequivocal support and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris — she is the trusted leader that we need in this time,” said Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell. “She’s spent the last four years as a governing partner to the most experienced president in history, and she’s ready for the battle. As leader of the Florida House Democratic Caucus, my team and I are charged with winning those races on the margins. I’m very excited to have Vice President Harris on the top of the ticket because it’s going to energize the electorate in a very real way.”

“Having sat next to the Vice President at reproductive rights round tables, spoken alongside her on what should have been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and joined her at the White House for a convening on reproductive rights, I know that Kamala Harris is the leader we need to meet this pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” said Florida Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book. “Vice President Harris understands the challenges facing our country and has the experience and vision to lead us forward with compassion and competence. I urge Floridians and Americans across the country to join me and Joe Biden in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for President in the upcoming election.”

“Today, I am thrilled to announce the unanimous endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by the Florida Democratic National Committee Members, all 15 of us,” said Florida DNC Member Samuel Vilchez Santiago. “Vice President Harris embodies the values and principles of the Democratic Party. Her vision for America is one where everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive. Her leadership is exactly what our country needs to continue the progress made and to confront the pressing challenges of our time.”

236 members of Florida’s DNC delegation have released a letter of support for Vice President Harris’s candidacy below...

As dedicated delegates to the Democratic National Convention representing the great state of Florida, we come together to express our strong support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. We join President Joe Biden in endorsing her candidacy, recognizing her outstanding leadership and accomplishments.

First and foremost, we extend our deepest gratitude to President Biden for his over 50 years of dedicated service to our nation. His leadership has guided us through unprecedented challenges, and his tenure has been marked by significant achievements that have positively impacted countless lives. The Biden-Harris administration has delivered for the American people, from helping create close to 16 million new jobs and enacting 6 major pieces of legislation to advancing the Build Back Better framework, addressing climate change, reducing child poverty, and making historic investments in education and healthcare.

We wholeheartedly believe Vice-President Kamala Harris embodies the values and principles of the Democratic Party and is the most qualified Democrat to continue delivering for the American people. Her vision for America is one where everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive. Her leadership is what our country needs to continue the progress made and to confront the pressing challenges of our time.

As Florida convention delegates, we stand united in our support for Kamala Harris as our Democratic nominee for President. We urge our fellow Democrats to join us in endorsing Vice President Harris and to work tirelessly to ensure her victory in the upcoming election.

Sincerely,
