Save Our Libraries

saveourlibraries.pngThis is it: Crunch time to take action and save Miami-Dade's public library system!

Tuesday, July 15 is the county budget meeting where the mayor and commission will decide whether or not to fully fund our library system.

If we don't step up now, Miami-Dade's library system — once an award-winning institution — will be crippled as hundreds of staff are laid off and library hours are slashed.

Here are four ways you can help:

  • Participate in our library week of action from July 7 to July 14. Sign up here for a shift to gather petitions at your local library or Starbucks.
  • Attend our organizing meeting on Monday, July 7 at 6 pm at the Miami Dems office located at 2141 SW 1st Street, Suite 204. RSVP here.
  • Join our Red, White and Blue Breakfast about protecting our public library system, Saturday July 12 from 8:30 - 10:30 am at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design downtown. Tickets here.
  • Attend the County Commission meeting on Tuesday, July 15 to show your support for the libraries (County Hall is located in downtown Government Center, 111 NW 1st St, Miami starting at 9:30 am). RSVP for the commission meeting here.
And of course — don't forget to like the Community Advocates for Libraries in Miami (CALM) on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

If you believe that strong public libraries are at the core of a strong, vibrant community, then please get involved today.

As Ray Bradbury said, "Without libraries what have we? No past and no future."

Together, we can make the difference. Let's do this!
