Juan Cuba: Stepping Down as Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party

Today, after two years of leading the Party, I am stepping down as Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party.

It's been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Chair.

In the last two years, we have won three special elections, flipped two congressional seats, and have done a tremendous amount of infrastructure building, leadership development, and issue work.

I am so deeply proud and thankful for the staff who helped build up the Party, our incredible officers, our steering committee, our Chair's Circle, our Club and Caucus Presidents, and all of our Democratic Executive Committee members and volunteers. You all are the heart of the Party in Miami-Dade, and the reason why I am confident we are in good hands in this moment of transition.

As for me, I am not going anywhere. I will remain involved in our local and state politics. After five years (three as Executive Director and two as Chair), it's simply time to prioritize my family, friends, and professional career without the burden of Party leadership.

It's also time to give someone else an opportunity to lead.

Thank you for all of your support in the last two years.

I look forward to supporting the next Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party and building on our tremendous momentum. I hope whoever that may be will continue to view winning elections as simply a means to the end of advancing policies that help working families.

Our First Vice Chair Maria Elena Lopez will serve as acting Chair until a new Chair is elected at our next DEC meeting on February 18.

Again, thank you.

Juan Cuba
