Tell Mayor Gimenez: Time to fix the lines

weredonewaiting3.pngBREAKING: Mayor Carlos Gimenez just announced that Miami-Dade County plans to delay — again — long-overdue reprecincting that would more evenly distribute voters between precincts.

On election night in 2012, voters in some parts of Miami-Dade waited seven hours to vote — in large part because of uneven precincts. Many were still waiting to cast their ballots after midnight!

Tell Mayor Gimenez: We are done waiting. It's time to redraw the precinct lines in Miami-Dade and make sure ALL people in the county have equal opportunity to vote, no matter where they live!

Here's what you can do now to help:

Senator Dwight Bullard & Rep. Cynthia Stafford Statement on State of the Union

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Representative Cynthia A. Stafford (D-109) and State Senator Dwight Bullard (D-39) Joint Statement On State of the Union Address delivered by U.S. President Barack Obama

MIAMI — State Representative Cynthia A. Stafford (D-Miami) and State Senator Dwight Bullard (D-Miami) issued the following joint statement in response to last night’s State of the Union address delivered by President Obama as it relates to raising the minimum wage for American workers:

State Representative Cynthia A. Stafford (D-Miami) offered the following remarks:

“I commend President Barack Obama on issuing an executive order to finally raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for workers on new federal contracts during his State of the Union speech. Raising the minimum wage will not only lower the unemployment rate, but will also provide economic security for American families. Florida, which represents a large number of unemployed citizens, should follow President Obama’s lead and raise the state minimum wage during the 2014 Regular Session. I am proud to serve as the House sponsor for House Bill 385 State Minimum Wage. If passed, House Bill 385 would raise the state minimum wage to $10.10 per hour and ensure economic security for hard working families in Florida."

Miami-Dade County Democratic and Republican Party Joint Statement

The Chairwoman of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, Annette Taddeo-Goldstein, and the Chairman of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County, Nelson Diaz, have joined their efforts to declare bi-partisan support on behalf of one of our community’s most vulnerable populations — child-victims of sex trafficking.

“While we may not always agree on certain policies, the Miami-Dade County Democratic and Republican parties are 100% committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our society, children. There is no such thing as partisanship when combatting the most insidious crimes, like child sex trafficking. We must all work together to ensure these victims receive the treatment they need and that the criminals who traffic in children spend their lives behind bars. After what we saw recently at an adult club in Miami Beach, no one can afford to sit on the sidelines; we must all do what we can to protect our children,” said Annette Taddeo-Goldstein, Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, and Nelson Diaz, Chair of the Miami-Dade Republican Party.

Time for a higher minimum wage in Florida

Senator_Bullard_-_Minimum_Wage_Press_Conference.jpgThis week, Senator Dwight Bullard and Representative Cynthia Stafford took a critical step on behalf of Florida's working families by introducing legislation that would increase the state minimum wage.

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party commends and stands with Senator Bullard and Representative Stafford in their call for a higher minimum wage.

"Rick Scott and his Republican colleagues in Washington claim to be 'pro-job' and 'pro-economy'," said Miami-Dade Democratic Party chair Annette Taddeo-Goldstein. "Yet at every opportunity and every level, their policies make life more difficult, not less, for millions of hardworking families in this country, especially the people struggling the most and working the hardest to get by."
