Miami-Dade, FL: - News broke today that former Republican congressman David Rivera and his company were paid $15M by communist dictator Nicolas Maduro’s PDVSA oil company. The story should concern local residents because Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban "Steve" Bovo’s mayoral campaign has accepted money from Rivera’s company, funded by the Venezuelan dictator.
This @PatriciaMazzei story is the talker of the day for Miami-Dade mayor race, since Rivera is a supporter of candidate @CommBovo. The Rivera firm in this story, Interamerican Consulting, gave Bovo campaign $1K in October. https://t.co/UPelv7IL63

In response to this news, Miami-Dade Democratic Party Chair Steve Simeonidis issued the following statement:
“After last week’s impassioned speech by Commissioner Bovo where he derailed efforts to give Miami-Dade workers earned sick leave as nothing more than a communist ploy, it’s quite ironic that his own campaign is being funded by donations tied to David Rivera and the millions of dollars Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro has funneled to him. He must return those funds immediately. Commissioner Bovo owes this community an apology for accepting tainted money and for his refusal to stand with Miami-Dade workers during a global pandemic.”
