At 93½ years old, Ann Bregman Rascoe proves that it’s never too late to act for democracy. A new but already invaluable volunteer with the Miami-Dade Dems, Ann, joined our phone bank because she deeply cares about helping Democrats vote.
“I’ve always felt I need to be doing whatever I can to help elect the candidates I prefer,” she says.
Ann has mastered the art of the automated dialer and does all her calls from her cell phone! In just two phone banks with the DEC, she has conducted nearly 60 meaningful conversations with our Miami-Dade voters, making her one of our most productive volunteers.
Her commitment speaks for itself. In addition to her work with the Miami-Dade Dems, over the last few months, Ann has written over 300 postcards, made an additional 200 calls, and created a flyer to help residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities renew their vote-by-mail ballots. She also contributes financially to candidates she believes in, and remains active with both the Pinellas County Senior Democratic Caucus and the St. Petersburg Democratic Party.
Ann believes grassroots organizing is more important than ever: “Somehow, we may have the ability to reach out to others in a more appropriate, personal way.”
Her advice to others thinking of volunteering? “Please, do get involved. It’s important to try everything within your power to elect people who will do the right things for our city, state, and nation.”
Thank you, Ann, for your tireless dedication and inspiring example. You remind us that age is no barrier to making a difference.
We encourage all Miami-Dade Democrats to participate in our scheduled phone banks. 1:1 training is available, and once you talk to an appreciative voter, you will be hooked.
