Just a month ago we shocked the political establishment by helping Democrat Eileen Higgins defeat two political dynasties. On August 28, we have an opportunity to do it again. There's only one Democrat running for County Commission in District 12 (Doral, Sweetwater, Hialeah Gardens, west Hialeah): Patricio Moreno.
Patricio was our Democratic nominee in 2016 for State House District 105. After the County Commission's shameful vote to support Trump's immigration executive order, Patricio decided that he was more needed right here at home. And we are thankful that he's running. He is going to put affordable housing, public transit and sea level rise as his top priorities, and he has refused all donations from county lobbyists and county contractors.
The current Republican incumbent has been there for over 16 years and has overseen the two biggest frauds in Miami-Dade history: the mismanagement of the citizen's transportation trust and our county's obsession with subsidizing stadiums like the Marlins.
It's time to elect another progressive to the County Commission. Make a small contribution to Patricio's campaign, and please remind your friends to vote for Patricio Moreno for County Commission District 12.
