Our first-ever Blue Gala was a huge success
The Miami Dems are proud and excited to announce that our first-ever Blue Gala held Sunday, November 17th at the Biltmore was a completely sold-out event — and an enormous success.

A packed house of Democrats and elected officials from across Miami gathered to hear Ed Schultz receive the 2013 Progressive Champion award and Congressman Joe Kennedy deliver the keynote address.
But the event was first and foremost a celebration of Democrats in Miami-Dade — of all we have accomplished and all we are going to achieve together. We honored 5 outstanding Democratic leaders: Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, party leader Stephen Bittel, trailblazer Representative David Richardson, legislative champion Senator Oscar Braynon, and rising star Jon Adrabi.

Our most recent general meeting on Monday, August 12th at the American Legion was one of our best yet! It was attended by nearly 200 people who joined us to hear about the statewide Florida Democratic Convention, exciting recent work by the Dems, Organizing for Action, and other partner organizations, and how we are going to take down Rick Scott in 2014.

On Friday, August 9th, former Governor Bill Richardson came to Miami for the #ActOnClimate rally: a special event focusing on climate change, extreme weather, and expected impacts on South Florida's weather and economy. The rally, co-organized by the Miami Dems, the Audubon Florida, the Florida League of Women's Voters, and the National Council of La Raza, brought together advocates, activists, and others who braved the appropriately strange elements — pouring rain interspersed with bright sunshine — to hear Gov. Richardson and State Senator Dwight Bullard speak.

The first-ever Blue Party to celebrate Miami's birthday hosted by the Miami-Dade Democrats & Miami-Dade Young Democrats was a hit!
Held Friday, July 26th at Avenue D downtown — named for the original name of S. Miami Ave — the party brought together 250 members of Miami's progressive community and elected officials to celebrate the city's 117th birthday. "The Blue Party was a tremendous success," said Juan Cuba, executive director of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. "There was a ton of energy in the room, and a lot of people looking to make an impact on our city."
